Conventional healthcare frequently disbelieves women when they seek care. The same thing happened to me. So, I decided to create a collaborative, safe space for autoimmune patients to heal and be heard. I'm excited to give you a sneak peek into my personal WellTheory Care Plan. You'll see my healing foundations, nutrition, lifestyle, and supplement guide. My plan is re-evaluated biweekly with my team to ensure I'm on the right track to healing and relief. It's just a glimpse into the whole body care I receive that zeroed in on my root causes and completely reversed my symptoms.

In my intake session, I had shared with my Care Team that addressing my root causes of Lyme disease, mold/heavy metal toxicity, and gut dysbiosis was my top priority. My goal in working with WellTheory was to reduce some of the associated symptoms, including bloating, fatigue, and brain fog. After I completed my nutritional assessment, I received a breakdown of the systems in my body that needed attention and support.

Ellen's Healing Foundations

My nutritional assessment revealed that my eating patterns and root causes were impacting my digestive health and causing nutrient deficiencies, while my liver and gallbladder needed some serious TLC. Based on this initial health baseline, my Care Team identified three core areas of focus: digestion, liver/gallbladder support, and mineral needs.
HEALING FOUNDATION 01

Digestion

Nutrition
  • Eat slow-cooked, pressure-cooked, or braised foods — Cooked foods are often easier to digest.
  • Limit fluid intake with meals, and instead use digestive bitters — Incorporate digestive bitters at the beginning of meals to stimulate gastric juices.

Lifestyle
  • Keep a food journal — Use a food journal to track symptoms and make correlations between foods and symptom triggers.
  • Eat in a calm, relaxed state — Be mindful of your emotional state prior to eating to support the body's natural digestive process. High stress can shut down the body's ability to properly digest.

Supplements
  • Hydrozyme — Take 1 capsule, 3x daily with each meal. Hydrozyme contains small doses of hydrochloric acid and pepsin to support the secretion of stomach acid and enhance nutrient breakdown and absorption.
  • Seeking Health Probiota Histaminx — Take 1 capsule daily, with food. Incorporating a low histamine probiotic will support a healthy gut microbiome without triggering the release of excess histamine.

Liver & Gallbladder

Nutrition
  • Eating a diet rich in healthy fats — Consuming healthy fats helps signal important digestive hormones, like cholecystokinin (CCK), which stimulates the release of bile, supporting the optimal breakdown of essential fatty acids.
  • Increase intake of bitter foods — Add bitter foods to stimulate healthy bile production (e.g., dandelion greens, arugula, and nettles).

Lifestyle
  • Dry brush — Dry brushing before showers can support natural liver and bile detoxification.
  • Castor oil packs & Epsom salt baths — 1-2x per week. Castor oil packs and Epsom salt baths aid in natural liver and bile detoxification.

Supplements
  • Beta TCP — 1-2 tablets, 3x daily with food. Beta TCP contains a concentrated form of beetroot, vitamin C, and taurine to help support healthy bile flow.
  • Quercetin & stinging nettle — Due to your past viral infections, adding in quercetin and stinging nettle can help support your body in dealing with viral load.

Mineral Needs

Nutrition
  • Hydrate — Drink no less than half of your body weight in ounces of water every day. Proper hydration is imperative for healthy skin, to lubricate joints, and proper mineral absorption. Adding about a 1/4 tsp of Himalayan pink salt in every 20 oz of water will ensure a steady supply of minerals.
  • Consume legumes, leafy greens, clams, and mussels — These foods activate metabolic and detox enzymes through the addition of molybdenum and manganese.
  • Incorporate beef liver and oysters — Both foods will help keep heavy metals from collecting in your tissues.
  • Incorporate brazil nuts — This nutritious nut can help boost selenium levels.

Lifestyle
  • Breathe — Practice 4-7-8 breathing exercises before meals. This breathing technique relieves stress and anxiety to support a rest and digest state. This supports vitamin and mineral absorption through optimal digestion.

Supplements
  • Multi-Min  — Take 2 capsules, daily with food. This supplement will supply your body with therapeutic levels of key micro minerals that you are currently deficient in.

I feel incredibly lucky to be where I'm at today because the healing journey is not linear. For me, this has been years in the making and I'm grateful every morning that I wake up and feel like I can take on the day — I really don't take that for granted anymore.

Like so many others, my healing journey took some trial and error. Our society often teaches us to look outside of our own lived experiences for validation and answers. But remember that you are the world's best expert on your body. There's really no-one-size-fits-all path to healing, so seek guidance externally but look internally to decide what's right for you. Don't forget: your body knows best — listen to it and advocate for yourself!
